Erstbesitz Italienisches Heer 1916
Sturmey Archer Getriebe 3-Gang
Dänische Papiere
Motor Nr. 10703
Fgest. Nr. 744168
Frame number 744168 was assembled into a machine on 1st April 1916. At that time it had engine number 14608. It was part of a consignment of army dispatch rider Multis sent to Veladini in Milan for the Italian army. If the machine has originated in Italy this would fit as quite a few veteran engines were sent to the military as spares as this got rid of old spare stock when metal supplies were getting more difficult to obtain to make new ones.
The current engine number 10703 dates from early 1914, so this part is veteran. It is quite possible that the frame number has been misread as this is a common error with layers of paint over the number. Is it, for example 714xxx? This is a more likely fit with the engine number, but it is not 714168 as this was a cycle frame!
